This is an overhead view of the Piazza del Campo. The Palazzo Pubbico , the public palace, is still the seat of the municipality. From here we set off to the Duomo, Siena's cathedral. Photo compliments of Peter and Mary Usmar.
Lined with cafe tables and lots of tourists, the square is the home of an annual festival of the Palio, a horserace which takes place in here in the center of Siena.
Our first stop in Siena was Piazza del Campo which is the heart of Siena. The focal point is the Palazzo Pubblico, which dates back to 1250. This is the bell tower called Torre del Mangia.
We took a car trip into Tuscany, one of Italy's most famous regions. Grapes and Olive trees lined the countryside. Our destination : Siena, a well conserved medieval walled city.
We took the train from Viareggio to Pisa where we spent the day touring. We ended an exciting day by climbing the 300 plus stairs to the top of the leaning tower.
Positano on the Amalfi coast of Italy rises out of the sea. To say it is spectacular is an understatement. We anchored off this very old resort town and tendered our guests ashore for the miles of steps one has to climb to see the town from the top.
Lady A in the extreme right corner of the harbor overlooks the fishing village of Amalfi on the coast of Italy. We enjoyed the town several times over the last month and look forward to returning in the fall.
