Algarve Region of Portugal

A walk around the Vilamoura area proved interesting with marshes, Cork trees and the red cliffs famous in the Algarve region of Portugal. The cork is havested from the trees every 9 years and allowed to grow back. It is used to make purses, belts, etc and is one of the main crops in this mostly dry area. The red cliffs are dramatic against the white sand of the miles of beaches.

On display are the HMS Warrior launched in 1860 , the Mary Rose, the only surviving 16th century warship on display anywhere in the world and the HMS Victory which was Nelson's flagship in which she led the crushing defeat of the French and Spanish fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
